Catch of the Day

Got to play with my new fly rods at langford today, the fishing in the morning was decent, i anchored up and fished chironomids, and leeches by the second island. Had 4 small trout. The fishing started to dive so I relocated to the other side of the island, I had my chironomid line down and buzz, line started peeling off the reel. I grab the rod and tried reeling, but I would have snapped my tippet so I left the to fish run. About 5 minutes into the fight I saw the fish, a smallie?? I was hoping it a trout, but it put up a nice fight. The fish was probably around 5lbs, I will get some pictures of it up. After that fish there was nothing for about an hour so I relocated again, this time to the first island. There were a few husks on the surface so I put down full sink chironomid line, and indicator fished the other rod. 10 minutes in my deep line goes, and I lose the fish. 5 minutes after that loss I land a nice 17 incher. Then the fishing gets real, a fish every 15 minutes, I landed 3 other fish and then the hatch ended. So i relocated one last time and anchored up, caught and released a few tiny bass, and a few decent perch. I will get some pictures on tomorrow, I forgot my camera so I was taking pictures on my phone, just need to figure out how to transfer them.

Short day on the lake with the daughter. Lots of action nothing over 17" though. Saw KK anchored up on his honey hole. Seems like a few others were perched pretty close in as well. Lots of boats out today most of them were trolling.

How did you end up making out KK?

I can fill a 5 gallon full of em for ya if you want. There are alot that get over 10-12" probably good for a meal. I smack them and feed the eagles and other wildlife. Had an officer once tell me its unlawful to release them alive keep or kill fishery.

My younger brother says that Perch is one of the best tasting fish he has ever had. I don't think that he has ever had any of that size though. Kunni is that out of Langford Lake. Evil little monsters.

Back at it again today. Went up to Quam for the morning with the old man. Got into some great cutty action. The camera dident come out as they were active when it was still dark out ;)

Then things slowed alot and we anchored up and tried for some bows. No luck. Hmm it was noon and we had enough of the wind and lack of action we decided to head in. We loaded up the boat and headed for home. We were heading down island when I noticed the wind had calmed alot.

"Lets see what Langford looks like" Says Dad.

This is what he saw :)

This is the bloodworm imitation that fooled this fellow.

Tied on a size 12 Tiemco. 3/32 pink bead. Red Rabit fur Tail. Peacock dubbing body with silver wire wrap. Dark Olive 140 Thread.

All in all our trip to Langford lasted just over 2 hours. We ended up landing 14 trout. one other was over 18"

Cheers, KK

Oh yeah forgot to mention the fish was 26.5" And my guess is not far from 6 pounds. Biggest Langford bow in my boat!

Great job, I wish I got out more often. Might be able to get out this weekend. I am really dying to get a nice fish. Id say that that fish was close to 7, did you get a girth on it? Might see you out there :)
