Was good at Saanich Inlet and before commercial starts May 5 it should be good and stay good for a week or so.

Hey guys, I'm planning to do a fishing trip sometime in august and hoping to fish some spots around gulf islands. I would like to find some spots inside to fish, tent island etc, but I can't seem to find any regulations regarding salmon retention. I know last year there were quite a few spots on the inside that were non-retention even after august. I can't find any info from either last year or for this year. Does anyone know where to find this info? I remember seeing a colour-coded map that made it easy to understand where you can fish for chinook or not. Appreciate any help!

here's the only chart i've seen that shows some areas, timing, and regs. See attached.
Fishing BC is a good app to have on your phone. For area 17 (tent, etc) it's currently non-retention for chinook from Apr 1 - July 14, 2022. Once any updated reg decisions come down for July 15th and beyond they will update in the app as soon as DFO posts the info.

Got about 100 in 2 short sets on Sunday, not the best haul but 20 of them were HUGE. In the Navy channel area, I stay away from the gauntlet of traps on the Pender side. Some of those floats look pretty ‘commercial’ to me… thought they couldn’t start until May 5?
Couple lings and a few crabs to boot, great little weekend.

Crab and Prawn Buoys/Floats
DFO met with the SFAB GFSFWG and Prawn Committee throughout 2021 to discuss standardizing buoys/floats used in the BC recreational fishery. The SFAB and DFO have determined that to support improved enforcement and identification of gear/species being fished the following crab and prawn/shrimp buoy/float requirements will come into effect by condition of licence on April 1, 2023:
• Crab Traps - Floats attached to crab traps must be bullet shaped cylindrical floats a minimum of 27cm in length and 12cm in diameter.
• Prawn and Shrimp Traps - Floats attached to prawn and shrimp traps must be round (spherical) in shape and a minimum of 27cm in diameter.
The fishing community will be advised that these proposed changes to crab and prawn/shrimp float requirements will come into effect for the licence year beginning on April 1, 2023, by Fishery Notice and public outreach in the Spring of 2022. This advance notice should provide sufficient time for manufacturers to prepare and for fishers to purchase any new gear. Over the next year, fishers should start to transition to the new requirements. The Department will continue to work with the Sport Fishing Advisory Board and other recreational stakeholders to communicate this upcoming change.
Starting April 1, 2022, as a condition of licence, all crab, prawn and shrimp floats must made of a durable material and designed for operation in marine waters. Fishers should avoid using plastic jugs, bottles and foam blocks as floats as they may deteriorate or sink, or are hard to see or mark.

Gonna be a few boats out fishing (catch and release) for salmon on May 28th out of Galiano. Prizes for lingcod and halibut as well (hidden weight). Hope some of you on here can join us for a fun day on the water... despite the regs.

Is there a social event afterwards taking place? I'd love to attend but on opposite side of the island and would rather drive to montague than boat. Well, it's official, the girlfriend and I have the Plague. On the bright side, we live 3 minutes from Tulista, so with the exception of the little windstorm today, we can spend our isolation fishing.
Looked out at the water last night at 6, and saw that it glassy, so we hopped in the boat and ran out to Coal, tide was humming, so we ripped over to Fairfax. Dropped in the lines and as I sat back down in the captains seat, we get our first bite at 147 on a White squirt behind a Black Glo Flasher. Passed it off and Abbie got to land her first Chinook!
Spend the next few passes harassing a few more(3/7), all beautiful 7-10lb hatchery fish, caught and released some critters
If I'm not mistaken we are allowed to fish the bluffs until June first, correct? May head over there if it calms down by tomorrow.

hey @Rip Point, yes, there will be a small wrap up event at the restaurant (Crane and Robin) that is attached to the Montague Marine Store. Derby ends at 5pm so that's when it will start and probably be done by 6:30 or 7pm. Everyone in the derby gets an order of tacos, salad and a beer included with their entry fee. We will hand out prizes during dinner as well so hopefully everyone participating can make it for that.

Yeah Roger that, Oak Bluffs on Pender Island. Grew up over there, Kept my boat at Thieves Bay and Worked at Poet's Cove. Fished before and after work every day back in '14-15

If it's closed I may have to reconsider the friendly first nations fellow sitting at Tulista's offer to go fishing....
