2021 Nootka Sound/Esperanza Inlet Reports

Just wondering about the ramp situation in Gold River. Is it open to the public or are there any Covid restrictions in place?

Thanks
I went out there this past weekend in order to check out this very scenario. The local FN were there doing their thing, and it was all very professional. They were very helpful in answering any and all questions that we had. They have moved their small office from the top of the boat ramp to across the road. They have put in a U-turn area beside their office adjacent to the ramp, so it looks a bit like you will line up on that side of the road while you prepare to launch, not totally sure about that though. They have filled in the drop off hole at the bottom of the ramp when you launch at a very low tide, so that is also a positive. The new parking lot which was there last year is also very operational. I bought my season launch pass while I was there, and there was no hint at all about negativity. It was all very professional. Looks like it is definitely a “go” at that end. I am looking forward to several trips out to Critter this summer, starting with the Halibut Hustle in a couple weeks time. ... Pacemaker

How much is the launch fee and daily parking rate this year?
That's my last question...I promise!
I wasn’t paying full attention to it, but I think it was $20 to launch and $15 per day to park. The season pass is $250, cash of course. It doesn’t take too many days or trips or launches to cover that $250.

Does the pass cover parking as well? Thanks

Are they enforcing launch only on the road side of the ramp and retrieve on the other side?
I’m not sure, but I agree with you that common sense dictates that is definitely the proper way to do it when it gets a bit busy or crowded. Unfortunately, not everyone see’s the logic and someone often tries to butt in and go against the flow. Usually it’s pretty good, but occasionally the FN staff have to come over and conduct a bit of traffic control to get the proper flow going again.

Pacemaker, thanks so much for the update. I'm planning to make a few trips to Nootka in July. To avoid multiple costs for the ferry, would you suggest leaving the boat and the trailer in their secure parking at Gold River during that month? If so, paying $250 for the parking is a lot cheaper and less hassle than taking the boat back and forth to North Van.

Last trip up I guess 2 years ago on a busy Sunday B4 all this Covid stuff the FN launch staff were professional, courteous and had the ramp flow in good shape. Having the electric golf cart to shuffle people to and from the parking lot was a godsend as it sped things up considerably. New ramp huge improvement but still the odd individual wants to sneak down the middle of the ramp and cause some havoc or worse was deciding to flush their motors at the top of the ramp. Price was what was mentioned above and haven't personally heard of any theft.

Nice day in Esperanza today, calm seas. I went north for salmon, started at Sandstone point, fished off of High rock, then Low Rock. Nothing today for me today except a couple of black rockfish..Various hootchies,20210529_085758.jpg20210529_104758.jpg loony spoon, coho killer.... The first Bring your own Boat guests of the year took advantage of the calm winds and went offshore for Halibut and did well, a 53 and a 42!

Hi Reelrude, Yup, we will be back at the same time, same place. We look forward to seeing you there then. Got a couple other trips there too before then... Halibut Hustle and Shakedown Cruise... Will you be there then???

daddystoy, the ramp is open. We went out for the last 4 days on a work party.

They are charging $15 for putting your boat in.

We caught a #25 white spring at Beano.

Mike
