What Did You Do To Your Boat This Week?

Spending the day doing some of my annual spring polish and wax to the boat. It never got this last spring as Covid put the season in doubt until later on in 2020. So 2 years worth of oxidation to remove. I'm trying a new wax this year...the Meguiars put a really good shine on the Mustang a few weeks ago so thought I would use it up on the boat and see if it lasts as good as the Star Brite...which is also a great wax. Many hours still to go but always worth it when done and you are looking at a new looking boat again.
I'm always amazed at how good your boat looks on the water after all these years. What is it,mid 90's?Good quality gelcoat job to start with and no doubt lots of upkeep.

Motor day for me,
After only 5yrs and 178hrs with this 357 crate engine, she through "something" ? 8 miles off shore from Beale late Thursday afternoon
Came in to Bamfield on the kicker, and son towed me back in to Port the following morning.
Now to find out what the fk let go, and get the new long block put back in when it arrives.
Good thing I wasnt smart in school and took all shop classes, can do all the work myself!

What kind of pad do you use for the 3M compound and what polisher is that? I agree with the replies below. Your boat looks awesome. Care to tell some of the details of your work please and thanks.

Recently did some polishing work on my dads 28 Marlin. Here are a few videos of the finished product, 3m specific gel coat products do an amazing job. This Hull is a 1990 and had never before been compounded, only semi annual waxing, so there was a considerable amount of oxidization.

Rayvon..1992..Oly I used to use Auto Glym fine cut as the start to the work but they no longer make it so found the 3M 36060 at Lordco which is similar in grit and how it cuts through oxidation and leaves a polished finish. The pad is a terry cloth type pad over the foam on the power polisher. I use a 7inch power polisher to work it in...a Simonize model. Then just use a good wax by hand to protect the work I have done until next spring. I limit the amount of chemicals I use to clean through the year so the wax doesn't get removed. Just rinse it with fresh water and call it done after using the boat. Its time consuming especially the upper parts with all the railings, cleats and stuff to work around. I do a few hours at a time and quit when I my mind starts to think of more interesting things I could be doing....otherwise the quality of the job would suffer. I spread it out over a couple of weeks.

Just did the annual cut polish. Took the batteries out cleaned up the connections a bit. Had the risers and manifolds done so hopefully no more major work to be done for a bit.

Great job and beautiful boat,I couldn't see a dock rub mark anywhere. Not too many Grady's look that nice, they get used too much.

Beauty job :) You will be wanting to change those plastic thru hulls out to brass or SS as they do break.. had one on my 1997 pop on the water line first season i got it befor i changed them out.. Just my experience :)

New Garmin 942 and Airmar TM-165HW installed. Waxed of course as well. Cant beat Grady gel coat. 18 years and still looks like a mirror.

Thanks, Ray. There were actually a lot of gouges, scratches and scuffs that I ended up wetsanding out. I ended up trying out a new-to-me product from 3m, their perfect-it series for gel coat. Their heavy cut compound can remove P800 scratches and their claims don’t lie, amazing stuff. Most of the deeper stuff was hit with 400/800 and then compounded out. As per 3m system it is to be followed up with Finesse-it ii polish, with the corresponding blended wool polishing pad (different from the 100% wool compounding pad). Final wax was done with the Collonite 885 paste wax, amazing stuff but needs to be applied in small sections. It will last almost a whole season.

Thank you, and yes, you’re absolutely correct. I replaced all the Marelon thru hulls on my Pursuit with Gemlux stainless. It wasn’t a job I was willing to take on with his Grady, the polishing was enough for this year, I’ve got my own stuff to do lol.

I bit the bullet and did something I've been very curious to do for a few years now. I took a 1/4 drill bit and drilled through my hull near the stern, just outside each of the inner stringers to see what if any water dripped out. I am the 3rd owner of my '96 Double Eagle, and there's been a few different bits of gear screwed into the fiberglass deck, and have always wondered if it's dry under there. Very happy that no water came out! Sealed them back over with 5200. Now I can sleep at night :)
