Believe your $2mill protection and indemnity is your coverage if someone else is injured or dies as a result of use of your boat..passenger or otherwiseWondering since medical is $5000 if something were to happen and got hurt am I limited at $5000 in coverage for medical bills or good forbid someone died I would only be covered for $10000? Should know tomorrow, man they make this complicated, lol.
Another consideration: if someone steals your trailer and you have comprehensive with icbc your premium won't go up. If you claim a trailer theft on your boat insurance your probably going to have to pay the deductible and your insurance is going up. I always insure my trailers through ICBC for fire/ theft/ vandalism and leave them off the boat policies. Small claims end up being being paid back in premium increases, often many times over. My 2 cents anyhow.Thats a good point...can’t see why need that double counted unless you were only planning to insure your trailer for a portion of the year instead of a full year. If that was the case, having it on the boat policy would cover for theft in event it wasn’t insured thru ICBC I suppose. Also maybe ICBC wouldn’t cover for full valuation like the boat policy would in the event of theft. Will check into that.
I had my boat insurer take off the trailer a couple of years ago. It saved me $35 a year On a $4500 trailer. If I’d known that before i would just left it on. When I increased the valuation of my boat by $20k because of new motors they billed me an extra $220 per year.Thats a good point...can’t see why need that double counted unless you were only planning to insure your trailer for a portion of the year instead of a full year. But did you ever have any claims processed through them? They all can look nice on paper and most seem nice on the phone. But what happens when you need them?I have bought my boat insurance through Dolphin insurance for a number of years. Very nice to deal with.
They understand marine insurance as that is all they did for a long time - I think they have recently expanded in to home insurance also.
Never been asked for a survey and never had a problem getting my boat insured for what it is worth.
Thankfully not and hopefully never, but they know marine insurance and understand my specific needs, i.e., I fish mainly offshore and want my policy to cover as far as my boat can go.But did you ever have any claims processed through them? I had a claim with Dolphin last year and they handled it well, no problems and very efficient service. Probably not the cheapest out there but worth the piece of mind.Thankfully not and hopefully never, but they know marine insurance and understand my specific needs, i.e., I fish mainly offshore and want my policy to cover as far as my boat can go.
Most other brokers sell Autoplan, home insurance, life insurance, etc., they may be fine and sell the same policy in the end, but it is nice talking to specialists.
X2. I've had Dolphin for 10 years and through three claims. Always treated me well. Second claim was a break-in where a few other guys in the same marina got hit and I made out with far more stuff covered.I had a claim with Dolphin last year and they handled it well, no problems and very efficient service.
