Rod Holders

I tried out the rod holders not to bad. The only problem is the rail mounts slide down. What is the best way to stop them from sliding down. Don’t want to drill threw the rail.

I have used black electrician tape wrapped around rail several times and then mount Holder with success.

I never found that to work well at all. I considered trying thicker PVC tape but opted for the stainless screw instead.

Shimming with a little rectangle of beer can is a good way to increase grip on a clamp - the aluminum is soft and crushes a bit. Although I have to admit that I guess there's a possibility of galvanic corrosion in a marine environment if the rails are big buck polished stainless or something.

Anybody mount stainless steel rod holders on their downrigger booms?

I've heard that some have drilled a hole through the boom to ensure that the SS rod holders don't twist and dump your rod. Anybody got any pics of this set up that I can use so I can mount these right the first time? Any help with this appreciated!
