Willie off the dock first thing So Monday morning broke... looking like the weather and winds as forecast were coming down so we could giver a try...with the forecast showing it was going to come right down we were going to giver her a over nighter .....
As we cleared the lighthouse out of Tofino it was looking a tad sportie.. sure is a lot of water moving in and around tofino...
At the 30 mile mark.. our Captain felt t hat it was a tad to sportie for him and decide that we woould abort our attemp for the day we turned around and headed back in .... with the forecast dropping seas we knew we would be able to get Tuesday morning for a overnighter.....
Tofino resort had a couple evening events set up for those that were participating in the event so we got to take a road trip up to Tofino wilderness resort... super nice place
So Tuesday morning Dawned..winds down green light and we are off for are first over nighter
Peter doing the pre check on Trents boat before he left the dock...all boats were inspected before leaving the dock...
Clear sailing... got out around 53 miles.. temp look .. saw some peanut tuna busting bait, birds and a whale.. perhaps a good and time to deploy the gear
We saw 2 and then 3 pods of tuna jumping bait breaking out... dumped our troll gear out and we were looking for the just right condition so we could get our live herring train going
and we waited.. changed up the gear... then changed the gear..talked to a few of our friends out there.. pretty tough slugging with just the odd one being takem most were under 10lbs..
Mike doing up some yummie sockeye for lunch.... funny it tastes even better at 80 miles off shore..
Just as dusk approach... bamm there one dumped out some line..then fell off.... 20 minutes later another one on as just as quick it fell off too looking like we may have found some fish that would bite.. we proceed to dump the sea anchor out and prepared to float around for the night.. my first over nighter this should be fun.. eh
Sooo.. to carry on with this adventure.. so this is where it all starts to go side ways or should we say moves forward ! ?
So sea anchor is set, light winds a little side slop.. I hit the rack 9ish..Some of the boys are playing around on the back deck..we have a green light in the water to see all the weird **** that is swimming around 80 miles off shore.. some ig sharks..big squid ..lots of bait fish. so aroung 12:15 the capt. fires up the second diesel ..so I awake and re leave one of the other guys so they can get some rack time.... capt then pulls the sea anchor puts the boat in a gear...
At 10:30 weds morning this us at the dock fully un loaded ..no boat ..no captain..no idea what the hell happen home ward bound
We have no idea. there has been no conversation on the way back with the capt. or since we saw him last leaving the dock... It was the weirdest **** ever... I can only speculate that 80 miles out or off shore for that matter is only for certain people and not for all...
