Spent a gorgeous day on the water. No salmon a few ling cod being a nusiance and enough prawns for dinner. It was a great day, I might try Sentry Shoal tomorrow if the weather holds. will let you know later.
I have used one before, but I don't mind pulling up 2 traps. I found that you race off for 200 yards and then you still have to pull in the rope and tow the bouy with the traps towards you. Almost as much work. I have made a puller and now sizing out a motor. Saw one at the may do the job.
If you have a good sized buoy it raises the traps right to the top-when the buoy pops up the first trap is at the surface.
Then you make a slow half circle back to the raised traps</u> while your partner brings in the slack rope.
There's no "racing off for 200 yds" when you only have 300 feet of line down and no dragging the buoy toward you at all.
Sounds to me like you're going too fast/have a small buoy that lacks sufficient buoyancy/a bit of both.
I can see the appeal of a motorised unit if you can do much of the work yourself.
