What Did You Do To Your Boat This Week?

Bill

Next time you have the boat out I would spread a healthy layer of Penaten on your outboard bracket….tabs and actuator parts below the water line. Depending on use it lasts for quite a long time. It will get you through the Spring growing season and cut down on growth big time…..
For babies asses AND boat preventive maintenance. Who knew? 🤣

Insulated one of my aluminum in floor boxes. Will be dropping in an aluminum liner that's 3" smaller all around and sealing them together. Hoping it'll hold ice twice as long. Hatch cover will be insulated too but won't be able to seal up the tote top to be air tight. Screenshot_20230329_133624_Gallery.jpg

You can also cut out some thinner flexible blue foam to lay right on top of the ice.
Every bit helps.

I cleaned all the winter road grime off it. Next is getting some proper marine silicone to seal the windows as the weather seal has decided it didn’t want to be a part of the equation anymore.

After 19 hours of cutting and waxing.

Missed it. Worked a 3 day job in port Alberni that took 5 days so my plan to be test running it today went out the window.

Took my boat to Agate Pass Boat Yard , Bainbridge Island , WA to have the old, failing bottom paint blasted off. They applied new epoxy barrier coat and aluminum safe bottom paint. Very professional work. 👍👍.

Changed water pump on the main and a good general spring cleanup of the hull. Off to Sunshine Coast for Easter.

For the record, I'm done with aftermarket impellers. Only OEM from here on. POS item from Sierra was a fail right out of the box last fall. Today when I disassembled the pump, it popped out of the pump housing with one good tap. It had sat all winter but had exactly zero hours of actual runtime. Frickin thing took a shape when I did the change back in November and wouldn't pump right from the get go.

I ran out of time back in November with early ski season commitments upon me, but I ordered a full pump kit from Evinrude and paid the $$$$$. Today a careful install and a run on the earmuffs to check both motors. Started first turn and once again I didn't bother to squeeze the primer bulb - it held pressure for 6 months. The Etec pissed just fine and warmed up to temp and held there as it should. Merc kicker fired up too, needed choke at first but that's carb engines for you.

Reel Slim and Aquaholic

I read the Pratical Sailor article and am going to try the Penaton. Walmart has it on sale.

I will be in Nanaimo with the Boat for a few things,, including finally getting the NEMA 2000 cable installed so we can have a working fuel guage.

I plan to clean the outboard bracket, tabs and all the other places that turned into Mussel Beach, pat things dry, put on a pair of gloves and apply the creme to the formerly afflicted areas. I will use a little paint brush to get it into the tight places and spaces.

It is very thick, you may have trouble using a paintbrush. I smeared it on my prop this year and ended up just using my fingers to coat it on because it was so thick. I think next time I will use a flat stick, such as a paint mixing stick. I wonder if it would become “paintable” if you warm it up a bit? I am pleased with how it has stayed on the prop at speed and nothing grows on it.

Interior painting done, fiberglassing complete.
Time to sand and paint the hull.
