Watch for Justin's big announcement today on a Northern tanker ban. Basically nothing changes, as it will be a "crude" oil tanker ban. Easy to impose as it shuts nothing down and Enbridge already had too many obstacles to overcome. Read the fine print, LNG tankers will not be included in the ban.

Listening to Rona....and I was just doing a quick bit of reading; anyone more well versed able to explain why despite approval they may not build the twinning line of the Trans Mountain proposal? There seems to be some "ifs" in her words and a few other quick articles I perused.

First Nations?

The Canadian Press - Nov 29 3:53 pm
Some indigenous leaders say Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has a fight on his hands with new pipeline projects connected to the oilsands in Alberta.

The federal government has approved the Line 3 pipeline expansion from Alberta to Wisconsin, as well as Kinder Morgan's proposal to triple the capacity of its Trans Mountain pipeline from Alberta to Burnaby.

Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, of the Union of British Columbia Chiefs, says the Kinder Morgan project is unacceptable because of the environmental risk from a higher number of tanker ships.

Phillip said a few hours before the federal decision that the battle against the project will ramp up in the courts and elsewhere.

Phillip was in Winnipeg where many Manitoba chiefs signed on to a declaration that they will not allow pipelines, rail cars or other projects connected to the oilsands through their territory.

Derek Nepinak, head of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, said governments and businesses must realize they cannot undertake projects in indigenous territory without full consent.

Phillip called Trudeau a "serial liar" and accused him of breaking a promise to respect indigenous concerns.

"He's been absolutely consistent in reneging and breaking the promises he made to us," Phillip said.

"The struggle will simply intensify. It will become more litigious. It will become more political and the battle will continue."

Uhh and I uhhh just want to uhhh say that I uhhh have not a clue uhhh. Poor kid he just wants to be a communist.

It was a forgone conclusion when they did the twinning through Jasper like 8-9 years ago.
At least Northern Gateway is dead.

He is trying to be what his party handlers want him to be - malleable.

So a pipeline is a danger to the environment up north but not so down south? I guess twin lines can't leak like single lines? Who would have known!

Tanker traffic will be banned, except for the highest marine traffic areas where risk of collision is higher, there it will be ok?

Best watch your butt on that fence you're trying to straddle Justin!

Sorry to say, but the FNs are playing this the smart way. The more of a stink they kick up, the more money they get. Me thinks secretly they love this decision. It will go ahead.

Not to paint everyone with a broad brush and hopefully not come across as a bigot but I've personally seen it twice in my short lifetime. Once with the Gitxsan in forestry and once with the Dene in the energy sector, to believe it doesn't happen is as unrealistic as saying it's all that happens and is the only motivation.
