Sointula/McNeil

I will be in Sointula for about a week over the Holidays, and on the days I can't make it across to go steelheading I plan to target winter springs from the breakwater in town (by the hardware store). I have never done this before, but a friend of mine had some good luck there two years ago, and I know people do well from the dock in Port McNeil. So, I have a couple of questions. First, are any winter fish or bait showing up yet? Second, what size is the feed up there at this time of year? Third, do guys cast spoons or jigs? I will take a variety of gear, and I will report back on my success.

Also, if anyone is up that way and wants to put in a day on the Nipkish, let me know. I don't know that river, and it's pretty big, so a few pointers wouldn't hurt. Happy Holidays.
