Smelt Fishing in Vancouver

Im a noob and wanting to take out my Gill net and try some SMelt fishing i did do it years back when i was a kid near UBC or wreck beach cant remeber. ANyone know
if its open to smelt fish and any good spots??

I have only ever seen guys chucking their nets out off Spanish Banks for them.

I have seen guys off ambleside beach, the 14th steet dock beach area, John Lawson park and infront of the old Pepi's ( Beach House) restaurant in west van. I remember it was later summer because one of the fellows had a big coho get caught in his smelt net at Pepi's( it eventually escaped but just barely) Also English bay I think I used to see them smelt fishing as well.
* NOTE>> illegal to retain coho that get caught up in a smelt net !!!!

THanks pippen, According to the links you provided me I cannot drop my net in the water until August 16th. guess i will just wait it out
