Season Change and New Activities

Fall has arrived and here at the SFI, we are turning our attention to the work we need to do to ensure that the sport fishing industry can plan for another busy season in 2013. As we do every fall, SFI staff and directors immerse themselves in the many pre-season planning processes that help shape the fishing season. Along with our colleagues in the BCWF and a host of other groups, we'll be participating in SFAB meetings and halibut working groups sessions to name a few.

SFI Open House

This fall, however, we're going to try something different. In an effort to gather more input from sport fishing operators, service providers and anglers in local communities, we'll be hosting a series of open houses up and down the coast. These informal sessions will be hosted in:
• Victoria November 13
• Campbell River November 14
• Port Hardy November 18
• Port Alberni November 20
Times and venue locations will be announced in the coming weeks as well as dates for additional sessions on the North Coast and in the Lower Mainland. We hope that you'll spare a couple of hours to come out to one of the local sessions and share your views on some of the key issues that you see affecting the recreational fishery in BC.

Annual Policy Conference and Big Splash - December 6th

As winter draws nearer, we are busily making preparations for our annual industry policy conference and Big Splash fundraiser. As we mentioned last time, the event will be held on December 6th at the River Rock resort and Casino and on-line registration is now available for all those interested in attending.

Certified Tidal Angling Guide Challenge - SFI CTAG Challenge for Experienced Guides

On another note, the challenge program for the Certified Tidal Angling Guide program will soon be available, end of October. Those interested in applying should contact the SFI Offices and watch for new application materials on the SFI website.

go2 - the resource for people in tourism - New Website!

Finally, I would like to note that our colleagues at go2 have launched a new job search site that may be of interest to those working in the sport fishing sector particularly in the off-season. The resource is available at http://www.go2hr.ca
