San Juan

I remember fishing by the bridge in nitnat when I was a lil guy, plus there was a hell of alot more fish to boot ugh.....

Checked out a couple of tributaries and floated from the campsite several times through the fall. Few small pods of coho...pretty grim. The few springs they have there did alright with the high water and saw numerous (can't be too generous) doin' the dirty. Beautiful river, what a shame.

Hello All.
Im looking to drift down jet back up the San Juan and do some fishing. It does not sound like it is a killer fishery but I know it to be a very beautiful place.
Does this sound like fun to any one else?
I have a 14ft jet boat and it is not for the faint of heart or the casual boater. If you and ALL your gear weigh less than 250 lbs, you love adrenaline, and want to trust me with your life we should get together...
Frankly this sounds like an add for an escort with aids.
Look its a small boat and a REAL BLAST :D

this recent flooding aside, can anybody tell me how the drift from the campsite to fairy lake was this fall? Just curious if there are any trees or jams to worry about or if its pretty clear?

thanks

Several pools down from the campsite there is a tricky spot in low water, but shouldn't be a big deal in high flows...I walked it around in the low water. The river splits before the confluence of the Harris and I have never followed down the left side, which has become the dominant direction of flow over the last couple of seasons. In low water I will be dragging the boat down the right, but until I take the time to scout the left channel I'm not willing to risk it. This bout of high water may change things drastically. Use caution.

Time to put some dents in the Fish-rite Poppa.. Cowboy has it right, but with that said the river probably blew-out this week and there was some wind, so there could be some trouble.. When we went down it was no problem, but then again i was with a top oarsmen, The Reddog.. Probably a good start for you to get your feet wet, before you decide to take on the Cowie.

ya I gotta admit I'm just itchin to get her in the water, this flooding is killing me.

But thats what I was getting at Fins, whats a nice easy flow to get some miles under the oars. I think I'll wait for FR before I hit the Cow.

Poppa,
Congrats on the purchase,Fins thanks for the compliment always a pleasure fishing with you and the Barbonater.Poppa get that boat of yours in a lake and screw around with it, dig your oars into the water and see what you get for a response.Once you get the feel for it,the Nitty is a great river to learn on and same for the San Juan.Only problem with the San Juan, depending on the flow there's a lot of dead water. One bit of advice when your learning the sticks is always point your bow at the danger spot, That way you can row away from the danger.Good luck tight lines and maybe we'll see you on some flow.
Cheers Reddog.

ya thanks, more then I wanted to spend but I couldn't help myself. Now if I can just figure out a way not to drown myself, I'll be all set [}:)].
