I had the opportunity to work with Ron at the fishing forever held by the club in the spring for several years .. What a great guy and dedicated person to fishing. He will be missed by all.
From the club emails..
"It is with great sadness that I have to announce the passing of Ron Watanabe, Vice President of the Courtenay and District Fish & Game Protective Association. Ron was receiving treatment for cancer in Vancouver and when released, his wish was to attend our Banquet Fundraiser Saturday night. A lot of us were fortunate to chat with Ron that evening unaware that it would be our last time.
Our hearts and sympathy go out to his wife and family and we will announce any information about a service or Celebration of Life when plans are formalized.
Today has been the worst of all days! I am very sad to report once again on the passing of a Fish & Game executive member.
Our President, Keith MacKenzie, a good family friend, passed away this morning. Once again, I have no plans or dates/times for a service but will keep you updated as I hear.
If anyone wants to send a note for his wife Jan and family via the club email address @
the-office@courtenayfishandgame.org, I will pass it on to them."
