Range Receptacle-Electrical Code ????

Our range receptacle is mounted about 1 inch to high, hence the stove can not be pushed to the back of the wall. The current receptacle is flush mounted. Rather than taking the old receptacle out and making a bigger hole in the wall to lower it, can the receptacle be surface mounted in the appropriate metal box?

Not an electrician but I believe as long as the cable is armoured with the metal wrap .

Then it would not be level with the counter top...

If the stove has a clamp for the cable, use that and might not need a wall box, wire straight in.

Then the stove would have to be bolted
and secured....I do believe.

Thanks everyone
Had an electrician look at and we moved the receptacle down and did some minor drywall repairs.
