Great news CL, have released a few 'keepers' lately.

AND FOLKS, MOSTLY YOUNGSTERS, NO FISHING BETWEEN THE WHITE MARKERS AND THE HATCHERY FENCE. THESE ARE 75 m BELOW THE DAM. SAME BUNCH IN THERE SNAGGING TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW, AND I'VE CALLED IT IN. BE WARNED.

Yes I saw them too. I saw one of them with a fish on and he said he hooked it in the legal area then it ran into the hatchery pool and he had to follow. That fish was snagged and I think he would have kept it if I hadn't been watching him. Teenagers, why can't they abide by the rules like everyone else? Maybe daddy will pay the fine for them?

Didn't see anyone 'over' the line tonight, saw a few new signs posted on the trail so maybe the boys in green paid a visit. Still a shame the number of coho being hooked roughly one way or another, and released, either close the river, or open the coho, why wait? I don't see the sport in dragging hooks through the water to fight an old spring by the back or the tail.

Commercials are at it out in front, with this rain, the river should be in good shape for chum in a few days.

......................................
Assessments on the Puntledge, Big Qualicum and Little Qualicum Rivers have
commenced and will continue for the balance of the season. Approximately 1000
chum have entered the Puntledge River to date which is earlier timed than the
Big and Little Qualicum systems. There has been very little chum observed in
the latter two systems to date. These levels are within the normal range for
this time of year.

Fisheries for next week are planned to target the anticipated strong and early
return to the Puntledge River.

Area H - Area 14

Troll opens 00:01 hours Tuesday October 13 2009 until further notice in
Subareas 14-9, 14-10, and that portion of Subarea 14-11 outside the Comox Bar,
northeasterly of a line from Longbeak Point on Denman Island, to a fishing
boundary sign on Willemar Bluffs.
.........................................

Another gillnet opening tomorrow.

Gill nets will reopen for 24 hours from 16:00 hours Thursday October 22, 2009
to 16:00 hours Friday October 23, 2009 in Subareas 14-9, 14-10, and that
portion of Subarea 14-11 outside the Comox Bar, northeasterly of a line from
Longbeak Point on Denman Island, to a fishing boundary sign on Willemar Bluffs.

Approximately 68 vessels participated in the first gill net opening on October
13-16 with a preliminary estimated catch of approximately 20,000 chum. There
are approximately 71 vessels participating in the current opening. This
fishery is reopening on Thursday in order to be concurrent with the Johnstone
Strait chum fishery this week and is based on reasonable escapement into the
Puntledge River and good catch levels.

Variation Order 2009-D-GN-Qualicum-04.

Chum
Effective 0001 hrs October 1, 2009 until 2359 hrs November 30, 2009 If the daily limit of chum salmon is two (2) in the Puntledge & Courtenay River downstream from a boundary marker located 75m downstream of the Puntledge River hatchery counting fence, then, upstream of said white triangle markers, you may ignore these limits and stuff as many into a green garbage bag as you can. You may also ignore any notices that are posted on trees in the area, as it has been raining and you may get confused reading the blurry text.

Chinook
Effective 0001 hrs October 1, 2009 until 2359 hrs November 30, 2009, If the daily limit of chinook salmon will be one (1) in the Puntledge & Courtenay River downstream from a boundary marker located 75m downstream of the Puntledge River hatchery counting fence, then, upstream of said white triangle markers, you may use treble hooks, barbed or not to snag your garbage bag full of wild or hatchery marked, chrome or blackened fish.

Coho
Effective 00:01 hrs October 12, 2009 until 23:59 hrs November 30, 2009, If the daily limit of wild or hatchery marked coho salmon in the Puntledge & Courtenay River is two (2) per day, of which only 1 may be over 35 cm, and coho can be either wild or hatchery marked, and the minimum size limit is 25 cm, then we have determined that this is too difficult for many fishers to comprehend. Therefore, upstream of said white triangle markers, you may snag, net, spear or otherwise kill as many of the coho you desire, be they chrome, dark, red or any other colour. Just fill the green garbage bag that was mailed to you any way you can, and run it back to your vehicle allowing your buddies to continue their sportsmanlike ways. Should anyone on either side of the river yell out to you that you should be downstream of said white triangles, just shrug your shoulders, and mutter something in a foreign language. You must be cautious not to snag your lines on the fisher standing right in the middle of said pool below the hatchery fence in his waders.

This is an amendment to the 2009-2011 Fresh Water Salmon Supplement of the Sport Fishing Guide and the table on page 7.

The Puntledge River, between signs located 100m upstream and downstream of the confluences with Morrison Creek, is closed to fishing for all salmon species, therefore if you are snagging in this closed area and not fishing, you may also place any fish killed in your garbage bag.

Ignore anyone who says they will report all violations 24 hours per day.
**** your friends off and call 1-800-465-4336 when you leave the river.

Yes definately. Caught two yesterday that were bright silver with sea lice still on them. Ther are also a lot of living deads in the river. Try to fish the fast water for the freshest fish. Saw DFO escorting an angler back to his car yesterday so it looks like there is some enforcement going on at last.

Lots of chromers coming in with every high tide. Not sure why everyone needs to floss and snag when they bite like crazy?

Ran into a fresh school of chum crossing 19A yesterday by the Honda dealer. Looked like they were heading towards Superstore.........[:p]

lazoman-hahaha I did see the garage that has Volvos on the news last night.:D:D
Hopefully all the eggs have not got washed out with that flood.
Told wife I was going to Lewis Park and try for some fresh coho.[}:)]
