Puntledge River Chinook & Coho Returns

Does anyone know if the Puntledge chinooks migrate out to the North Pacific (like Campbell River / Quinsam chinooks) or hang around the northern Straight of Georgia (like Cowichan chinooks).

From the 2018 preliminary stock assessment the ECVI chinook stocks were one of the only ones listed as rebuilding, and it seems to be the case if the numbers are good.

Southern BC: Many populations are stocks of concern or are expected to return at low levels due to combinations of low spawner abundance, persistently low survival rates and other factors contributing to declining productivity. For Fraser stocks, these circumstances affect all seasonal runs. Expect continued discussion of fishery restrictions to limit exploitation rates. WCVI wild populations remain a stock of concern while Chinook populations returning to the east side of Vancouver Island (e.g. Strait of Georgia — Fall) have been rebuilding.

There's definitely some bright returns out their, Chilliwack coho returns to the hatchery are already 50% more than all of last years return. Glad the great coho fishing we had of bowen island this year materialized to returns in the river.

Good to see. While many grim aspects to returns and how we are screwed by DFO, there are positives aspects out there :)
