Planning a prawning trip outta tahsis but would like to get out the week prior to the comies. Any idea when prawning opens for the big fellas?also I generally prawn about 300' when out that way in August .... Winter prawning same depth? Any change? Cheers

Usually around 2nd week of May. Prawns can move around but I will start at the same depths then move around if I can't find them.

Commie prawn season starts around the second week of May and will go usually until at least the second week of June.... It all depends on the spawner index results.

I think it normally starts just before Mother's Day. Which is May 11th this year and goes 2 months till July?? Unless they get closed sooner since prawning has been so poor coast wide.

Awesome thanks for input... Question cause I'm not a seasoned prawner, is there a trap limit per rope? I'm just thinking of basically hooking 3 traps per line , space em out 20' with a quick clip? I think this would work nicely if it's legal? Cheers

More then two traps on one line needs a float at both ends meaning you will already be using twice the line needed.

I run two traps per line 50-75 feet apart.

Usually opens the 2nd wk of May. Winter prawning may be a bit shallower -250ft
