Outboard Locks

We had the discussion about locks for bolt on kickers last year, and, nobody could remember where or what was used.

Found these at West Marine, McGard Outboard Lock.

Also occurs to me that it should be possible to just slip a 1/2 Stainless bolt in and use the standard locking wheel lug nuts. Not sure how they would stand up to the salt water though.

Shame we have to go to this trouble,

One of the best I found so far.. is called the Stazo smart lock. I have on my 9.9 kicker.. its an amazing lock.. thick thick stainless.. you won't be able to bend this... won't rust... had it for over three years now on my kicker. What I do is stuff the key hole with grease so salt can'nt build up in there.. only way they will get your motor is if they take a chain ssaw and cut out your transom.. if they really want it.. nothing will stop them realy..

The Stazo smart lock is hard to find.. its a European part. Not many places or any carry them here.. I bought mine on E-bay.. I rarely see them come up for sale though.. If can find one.. buy it..

Never did find a source (or price) for Stazo's.
Just googled my Masterlock (outboard, with the bar over the tighetening grip handles) and more U-tube videos on how to pick a lock come up before the Masterlock site appears.
Ahhhhh!!!

I had a master bar lock once.. it lasted one season and it rusted out.. the lock was so rusted out you could'nt use your key.. did'nt have to worry about it being picked.. not that they ever needed to.. the corner joins were not even welded just folded over metal.. one of the worst motor bar locks i'v ever seen.. don't waist your money on one..

had the stazo smart lock for 3 years now.. it has a special lock that can not be picked.. after 3 years, a hint of surface rust started to appear.. I took it off and washed it up with some steal wool... came off like nothing.. shinny as new.. amazing lock..

Did some searching for the Stazo SmartLock. Found a review of the lock and a site in New York where you can buy it for $79.95

I had the type of lock that covered both of the o/b motor's locking handles; the key slot was underneath and hard to reach. The lock was so good that the thieves by-passed the lock and took the motor mounting pad off the o/b bracket. May have taken them 5 minutes. I now have through mounting bolts that spin rather than back off; however, nothing is secure if the filthy crook knows what to do.:(
