Merc Offshore EFI 200HP Fuel Burn??

I have a 21' BW Conquest with a 1998 Merc Offshore EFI 200HP motor and I am wondering if anyone knows what kind of fuel burn I can expect?
I have heard some people say for WOT take the HP and divide by 10, but what about real world.

Those EFI motors burn more fuel than the opti's...I burn 10 gph at 4100 rpm with my opti 225....which is VERY close to a 4 stroke.Your smartcraft has the gph on it

I was going to ask you about yours. It's an 1989 22wd...fully loaded unit with even a sink and drawer unit on the port side ...sweet.I must have put 200 hours cleaning her up last spring, some people say...hey is it only 2 or 3 years old?? What model are you running?

I have a 225 EFI offshore on my Whaler. Lots of power, strong and reliable. I never figured out the exact fuel burn but it won't be as good as the Opti. People on the dock always comment, "smokes pretty bad eh". I would reply "No, its smokes pretty good!"

Thanks for the reply everyone. I kind of figured the burn rate was not the best, but thats what came with the boat.

I copied this off a thread from "Continous Wave".

I have a 97 225 EFI on a 23'Conquest running a 15P MIRAGE prop. Here are a few #'s using a Standard Hzn FF41 fuel flow meter.

RPM 3600 13.5 GPH
3800 14.2 GPH
4000 15.5 GPH
4600 19.3 GPH
5000 23.0 GPH
5400 28.3 GPH

Check out WOT!!

I would expect to see a burn rate of around 7 MPG @ 4000 RPM @ 30 MPH. The burn rate between an Optimax 150 and 200 won’t be that much difference on a 205 Conquest. In fact, the 200 will be running at lower rpm at the same speed and it won’t be won’t working as hard and should out perform the 150. Here is an old chart for the Optimax 150, again the Optimax 200 should get a little better than this chart shows.

the efi is no better than the old carbed ones,, i had this same motor on my 17.5 laguna and then put it on my 2102 trophy,, terrible fuel economy to say the least, loaded with dudes and fuel i would burn 18gph at 30mph on the trophy.. WOT on my laguna was 20gph at 48mph.. i miss tahsis molasis...

Charlie, What do you have on your conquest? Opti or verado?

Neither! I have a 2003, 295 Conquest, with Twin Mercury 225XL-4ST. Actually made by Yamaha to the point the Mercury and Yamaha parts are interchangeable. It is interesting when I buy parts, I always ask them to look up both Mercury and Yamaha then I buy the cheaper of the two.

You think 22 MPG is bad? I usually cruise between 25-30 knots and when planning a trip, “I” just figure on using about 1 gallon per nautical mile. Want to see why and what my performances chart looks like? When I open her up… she can surely burn some fuel! J

I would have figured fuel burn at 4000rpm [2 motors] would be about 21gph ....I thought the 4stroke was on par with the 225 opti....YIKES CHARLIE!! Too rich for my blood!

We used to call them " Mercaha's " . I believe they were the same motor as used in the Ford Taurus back then.

Very reliable motors !!
