lack of decent boats for sale ??

I have a 74 and a 77. Some people are wary of bottom paint on a whaler. Since this is an 84, it's going to have some dings and rash. The bottom paint will actually make it easier to grind, glass, sand and re-coat with bottom paint any blemishes below the water line. No need to worry about matching gelcoat.
I'd check for a spongy floor, especially around the fuel tank and that the transom isn't wet.
They all have some water in the hull. Just take one less fat guy as crew to make it a wash. You can drill some holes in the winter and let it drip (fill holes with marine tex or thickened fibreglass resin and a splotch of paint.), but you'll never get much out. This is a good deal, especially if the trim tabs and other components work and the motor really only has 300 hrs.

Not sure why someone would sell that boat for that cheap, when a new one is $60k after tax. Unless one isn't very bright or has more money than they no what to do with.
