Johnson outboard year

I have got a 7.5hp jonhnson with a broken throttle cable and I was wondering out to figure out the year so I can get new parts it's an older 2-stroke

Just look at cowling labeling.... Here is a place that makes cowling labeling http://garzonstudio.com/outboard/johnson.html#1986...

That should give you a guess. Also I think you can tell on serial number the year.....

Ya just google "Johnson serial number search" or something like that. Serial number is on the side of the mount. It is probably J8xxxxx. (my Johnson 7.5 says 8 too…)

The letters correspond to a leg length, starting style (elec or pull), year, and sub model (if applicable.

Having the info really helps for getting parts at the store, as well as searching for yourself online when the parts guys say that they don't have it (but you know they do!)

Did that label thing I sent you match your cowling? I never checked to see how accurate that thing was.
