Great choice, keep the cork oiled. You might like the flat paddles available. At first I just put one on and would switch from stock paddle to flat paddle, but there was no comparison for my style, flat paddles made a difference.

I was thinking the same. Love my tr3 handles - I wonder if they I get tr3 handles to fit? Islander has custom wood handles but they are all round..

They can be set up on your MR3, I can't remember if we had to change the posts as well. TR3 handles were really hard to get at one point, but that may have changed now. Either way the standard paddles are a comfortable improvement for some folks. and easy to get.

That is actually a riveted foot. If a true 5 inch and not 5-3/4in. Then it is very rare and hard to find. It is of an era between 1947 and 1953. I would comment that it is probably closer to 1947 in that it also has a straight back strap as the newer models are generally slightly tapered.

The extra handle holes would slightly devalue the specimen and the yellow dot generally indicated that it was a factory second and sold at a discounted price.

Happy to say that I did pull in a few coho with this reel last year. Definitely going to treasure it more now that I know what I have.

The wood Peetz was my late father-in-laws reel. We had Peetz refinish it and then sent it to him in his assisted living home in Merrit so he could play with it and relive his younger days on the water. A few months before he passed, he sent it back to me to keep it in the family. The stainless Peetz was my 40th Christmas gift from my wife (she took it all the way to Mexico as a surprise). The Islander is just blending in up there so my wife won’t find out I bought it

Had the winning bid on this beauty last night at the Victoria PSF fundraiser. It has a little cut out window with the number 600. Any info on this reel would be great to know. It’s spooled with wire line which I’ll replace. I’m planning on fishing with it this summer, then put it on display.

Congratulations. It's a PEETZ Recorder, which is an invention that was the first of its kind and very popular prior to the invention of downriggers. That little circle is a depth indicator. Right now you are sitting at 600 feet. This one was built during the start of the Bill Hooson era around 1979 when Bill opted to change the logo look. This is a PEETZ 6 inch recorder model #2500.

Bill Hooson is the very first New owner who purchased the company directly off the PEETZ family in 1977. Bill had worked for the family for many numerous years starting in the 1950s making lures, lead products, other tackles and reels.

Do you or anyone have any insight into the company in Victoria 1940’s Wilson & Lenfesty tackle and gun store I’ve read they made some reels.
I don’t have one of there reels but I do have a very old & interesting rod (no hijack intended so I snuck a Peetz reel in)

They were very popular suppliers of tackle, firearms, shooting supplies and outdoors products in the sporting goods industry. They were primarily wholesale / retail suppliers. Most of they're branded products were OEM by various manufacturers who contracted with them and would brand the products with their trade name. This was common practice with numerous other companies throughout Canada and the USA.

OEM services are heavily utilized in the Pacific countries by numerous popular brands here in Canada and the USA.

There are very few truly made in Canada tackle manufacturers in today's marketplace. It is almost a lost era.

Not as cool as the old Petez reel maybe, more like a sweet early '80s Datsun 280z haha. I like this reel with 2 way drag and that sweet music it plays, nothing funner palming the reel while it wants to scream. Also has nice big easily adjustable drag knob, I have found on the newer mooching reel I own that the drag can be difficult to manage with wet/cold fingers. Just bought another one of these daiwas new in the box for 100$
