Has anybody been getting any fish on the Cowie in the past week? I am trying to hook my first steelie, and have drifted it from Stoltz to Vimy the past two weekends. I have been fishin' with two other guys who know what they are doing (Graham?), but we havn't even got a hit.

Are the fish in other areas of the river? We have been chucking the usual stuff, pink worms, spin n' glows, wool, etc........Nothing.

Could somebody shoot some advice my way, and if you don't want to post it, you can e-mail. Thanks.

I think its the "Cowichan Clown Wig" that's your problem Banks.

My problem -- Hermann is bad luck. See on the Stamp, I walk away from you guys, then bang hittin em left right and center.

Drifted today from Stolz to Vimy. Hit 3 nice fish, all on Spin n glows. The other boat drifting did well, he said half and half, spins n glows and pink worms. So you are in the ball game, but you have to know where they live. Trees down across the river, after the wind today, so be careful.

Oglthorpe,

Location in the Cowichan is almost everything. There are lots water that look great but devote of steelhead. So you have to know where to fish. Hire a guide down and remember the spot is probably the best money spent or just fallow Fin-n-Skins down :) The type of gear you are using will catch steelhead, just be patient and learn the spots. As what Fins said, there is a tree down across the river just below the Washout, so be careful. It might be gone by the weekend cause the boys are bring a chain saw the next time out, but you never know. Fins, don't sore lipped all them fish, save some fish for me will you :)

Good luck,

Hyde-N-Seek.

Thanks for the responses, and for the heads up. It is good to know that I am on the right track. I will just keep hittin it, and it will make that first chromer all the more satisfying.

Another question, how long do you guys fish a spot before moving down?

Hey Oglethorpe I was the other boat down beside Fins today and we did well. Fishing the right spots is the real key. I drift the river evryday so I've kinda gottem figured out but one thing that I think is a key also is that you should make sure the you are fishing the right depth. I always say that it's better to be too deep than too shallow. My buddy was with us today and he was drifting a little too shallow a couple of times and I came in behind him tapping bottom and bang! If you guys have any other questions I'll be happy to answer them.

I sometimes fish spots for a while if I've got a good feeling. Usally if there is a fish there you'll get him pretty quick. If you hook up though and spook the pool it might bea little bit before another will bite. We hooked three fish in one pool today and it took us about 5 minutes to hook the first one and then after we landed it we hooked up two casts later and then it was another five bofore the next one.

Hyde good to see your back. I thought you might have given up on this site. You know me i am not a big #'s guy. I just like to get out and enjoy the river. I guess you must have talked to Chosen one, he had a good day with some nice fish. I heard your not doing too bad yourself. Keep the reports coming... Good luck if you get out.

Thanks Chosen One. I would really appreciate any hints for a spot or two hit. I am going out this weekend and would really love to get into a fish or two. I am pontooning it, so anchoring isn't much of an option. You can e-mail me at- brianbanks55@hotmail.com
