Best time to go to Barkley Sound Inside

Don't go too late....that first week of Sept can be hot or cold. Derby wasn't too bad last year, but it can also be bust. Mid Aug for inside the sound is a sure bet. Bring lots of good quality bait. Tight roll. Match chovie head colour to the water...you can't go wrong.

The sound can be deadly for winters in Jan, Feb, March.......Had many double digit days at Pill, Swale, and Vernon......The fish average 8 pounds but they are the best eating. Salmon University has great info on fishing the sound!

made my first trip on the aug weekend 1980 to sea beam.(Jacks campsite) fished that week for 10 years then figured that the fish were coming later. moved our trip back by 1 week and enjoyed fishing that we had when we first showed at the start or the month. Moved over to poett nook due to the mess that seabeam (murray) was turning into and backed up our dates to the middle of the month. I'm now going the last week of Aug and it has consistant and rewarding. made a few trips in sept and as searun says it is hot or cold. Book your time off, go and hope for the best. You'll always be told should have been here yesterday or there moving in; stay another day!!
