There have been some members posting some conflicting information on the Vancouver salt water reports thread as to DFO's August 17th fisheries notice FN0673 which states in the area 28-9 Burrard Inlet Sub Area retention for Springs is 1 per day and doesn't list a max size limit. Link to the notice: https://www-ops2.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fns-sap/index-eng.cfm?pg=view_notice&DOC_ID=236224&ID=all
Some members were under the impression that there is still a slot size limit there while others were under the impression there is no slot size limit for this notice/area.
It's always best to call DFO and to get something in writing from them regarding any reg/notice etc you are unsure about. I usually call them then get a reply in writing as well and I print it out and keep their reply with their contact information on my boat with me just in case I get a DFO officer with a different impression of a regulation at a later time.
I called and sent an email to DFO's FIA Recreational Fisheries Manager,
Barbara Mueller, Barbara.Mueller@dfo-mpo.gc.ca whom is listed on the notice as the person to contact with regards to this notice.
Here is my email to her:
"Hi Barbara,
There is some confusion regarding this fisheries notice https://www-ops2.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fns-sap/index-eng.cfm?pg=view_notice&DOC_ID=236224&ID=all with regards to whether or not the 80 cm max size for Spring Salmon retention pertains to this specific area opening for recreational fishermen. Can you please clear this matter up for me and for a lot of other anglers whom are also confused about this specific notice and opening? "
Here is her reply to my email:
"Hi Paul – thanks for your email.
It’s 1 Chinook per day in 28-9 until end of Aug. with no max. size limit."
