Anchoring for Halibut

I actually longlined in AK for halibut when I was about 14. I was too young and stupid to pay attention to what my old man was trying to teach me about it. Now that I have questions about it he is no longer and option for info. I did learn I never wanted to longline again after almost getting drug overboard. Osprey

The baits - I have found just a simply artificial grub, with a 1 X 6 piece of salmon belly or the white skin of another halibut, quite effective just about everywhere WCVI; however, I would be certainly looking for some CURRENT local knowledge based on where you are? And, you might find this interesting, depending where you are fishing?

BTW... I do and have always preferred drifting and back-trolling when necessary, over anchoring "OFFSHORE"! And, I did quit anchoring around those whirlpools at Race Rocks years ago, too! But then again, I don't run a very big boat - only a 30 foot Whaler?
