ANCHOR SIZE

Hey guys I am looking at buying a 20 foot aluminum boat...the question is this...what type of anchor and what weight would you guys buy? I am also thinking of putting on one of those Minn Kotta electric windlass anchor winches...Thoughts????

I wold go with a 7.5 KG Bruce anchor, and 40 feet of chain. Don't bother with an anchor winch, you will have no problem pulling that anchor up if you overnight. For halibut fishing, get a scotsman and a slider.

Thanks for that...How about if I am lazy??? I am really thinking of putting some sort of windlass on....is there a reason not to?

If you are going to use the boat in salt water more to go wrong

Sounds like a lot of chain at tide change to wrap around some rocks
got a 20fter and seems to do ok with 10ft of lighter chain and 10 of heavier chain

They are very slow, on the order of a truck winch. Not really practical for shallow water sets, as in a bay where you may overnight or whatever.

The one I am looking at is at an 85ft per minute retrive, and says it can hold up to a 50lb anchor...I may take your advised though I really like the idea of pucing 1 button, and having things happen for me...
