5.0l mpi VS 5.7l carb

Hey just looking for some input, what is better in the 2359 Trophy? The 5.0l mpi with brovo 3 or the 5.7l with alpha 1, assuming all things are equal with boat weight and contents.

I have the carbed 5.7 alpha 1 , so far leg has held up with no issues (probably just jinxed myself lol)
Id also take the 5.0 mpi with the bravo3, if you repower in future and stay with inboard go with the mpi 5.7 and you have the dual prop perfect setup
A pita to work on seapump with the bravo but a nice leg for sure

Lol, from what I can figure out, both seem to be pretty good setups, the 5.7 supposedly has a bit more torque but again I do not know the mechanics of it... the 5.0mpi, again, supposedly has better fuel efficiency. and way more expensive prop and rebuild...

No replacement for displacement but given the choice I'd go mpi, way less messing around with chokes etc. I'd also steer towards a beefier leg if you can...maybe it was me but smoking alpha 1 couplers was not my idea of a super fun time haha

@noluck, what say you sir?

5.7 carb(older efi is starting to be hard to find computers if one fails) , and drives really don't mater with this engine, pro and con too both

Only troubles with the alpha leg is the water pump is a little small for the 5.7. I have an Alpha behind my 5.0 mpi and have had no issue yet.the engine was new 5 years ago and the leg rebuilt at that time.About 450 hours so far in my 2459

i used to run a mr drive in my 70mph go fast boat, never had a cooling issue but run a good sized heat exchanger

I know there is no replacement for displacement but I would go 5.0 MPI with duo prop. Like SF said you can update the 5L In the future if needed, the Bravo Duo is a nicer set up with better torque

make sure it is 2001 and newer and has mefi-5 computer, the older ones are obsolete
Yes I am looking at a 2008 2359 Trophy with a new 5.7l alpha 1 with 30 hrs or 2007 2359 with the original 5.0l brovo 3 with 200 hrs.

The 2008 has never been in salt water, can I install the Mercury VesselView on a 5.7 carb engine or does it have to be a MPI version?

Although there is a cubic inch difference, they do have the same stroke. So you won’t be getting power from a longer stroke, it will be bore.

you don't need vessel view on a carbed engine,

Is it a new rebuilt 5.7 or crate motor? The mpi are just more reliable and efficient I believe the 5l mpi will get the same performance with that b3.
