4x4's destroying Fraser River spawning beds

..or netting the river..

yep one 10 foot gillnet placed well will do more damage but we aint gonna see anything about that in the news.

we know how this story ends with a nice locked gate and now more access for sports fishing.

Yet....nobody said anything about the massive gravel extraction upriver...
I don't think you will hear much about it. Vancouver's urbanites may want to support feel good conservation issues and click on computerized petitions, but they don't want to pay more for a Condo because of the loss of construction gravel from BC salmon rivers. Sport Fishing on the other hand, is an easy soft target that does not affect them.

Of all the problems our salmon are facing in Fraser Valley people are focusing on this and think its a problem. The clueless general public and ******** media love this. Probably a " small fringe minority" 4x4ing....

Why dont they focus on other issues such as:
-Complete butchering of our watersheds for logging.
-The Vedder claybank issue
-Netting of salmon and steelhead stocks that are a major conservation concern.
- The fact that there is nothing being done to improve fish passage at the Big bar slide.
- The extreme fluctuations of water flows from BC hydro on the Cheakamus, Alouette, Stave etc that strand our fry/smolts in mass killings and leave redds dry.
-The homeless camps on the Vedder, Fraser, Coquihalla and Silverhope that are leaving truckloads of garbage and litter beside the river that get washed away every highwater.
-The seal predation that is happening within our Fraser tribs and in the ocean. But the left and ignorant people dont want to hear this as its much easier to focus on those terrible 4x4ers

The list goes on....if you think someone 4x4ing on a channel that goes almost dry in January is an issue...pull your head out of the sand and leave the house.

Imagine if they actually put something on the news about the almost 50 gillnet openings DFO allowed on extreme stocks of concern Chinook this spring.
I remember a person who brought this to many, many meetings.

He was treated pretty badly as this was not considered a big deal by DFO and the FN were involved in this as they wanted the money and said it was no concern.

The FN sure got all upset when the press was invited out and shown what was going on.

DFO knew exactly what was happening and the videos taken showing what was happening was not enough to force a shutdown.

Showed lack of concern that DFO had for fish and how they are totally a political animal.
And that was years ago, its way worse now.

Bingo!

So, how long do you think it will be until there is NO Fishing for Sturgeon in the Fraser, due to lack of reproduction?

We need to allow sport fishers back on the river, catch and release, anything. Without the eyes on the river there is no stopping the runaway poaching going on that is 100 fold more damaging than potential to have a sport fisher disobey the rules. More policing in numbers.
