300lb braid downriggers and stern tie?

Too thin for a stern tie ?
If it's the black stuff it's great on the riggers
Boat weights approximately 6500 with the family on board. Mostly worried about strength for holding the boat in the wind and blowback when fishing 150 feet on the rigger. Want it for storage size vs a big spool. This is what I’m looking at for Braid. Reaction Tackle High Performance Braided Fishing Line/Fishing Braid https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07MP1MBBF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_tYE8FbE94YXKR?psc=1

I would not even consider this line as a stern line or even a downrigger line. It is only four strand wire, one nick and it degrades by at least a quarter. For a stern line you need something with give, this is no stretch one good pull and SNAP it will break. Good for flying a kite though

If you have any neighbors at anchor, that is an excellent idea to decapitate one of them. I saw someone with a spool of flat strap. High vis yellow and you keep your head.

Lots of excitement at anchor, yeah I've seen lines with hi-vis tape and others floating or barely-visible as I search for it as I determined the route around the boats. So the votes are likely for 1/4 inch Samson? wish it was in the budget. https://www.fisheriessupply.com/samson-rope-mfp-float-line USD

PowerPro 150lb braid good enough for 15lb balls?

I just carry a couple of these to use when I need a stern tie - easy to tie a couple together if you need additional length. Works fine for the few times a year I need it and it is cheap, so I done care if I need to cut a length off for something else.

200 lb Power Pro would give you that additional insurance and the difference in blow back is going to be minimal. If you are that concerned about blow back that you are considering 150 lb, stepping up to 18 or 20 lb cannonballs will be more effective (assuming you are running 15 lbs) - in which case you’re probably going to want 200 lb PP anyway. Good luck finding some now, it was a ***** to track down In the summer due to COVID supply chain issues, hopefully it has gotten better.

Yah the 150 is good enough but I went 200 for the insurance with 18s.

I got 400' of that same stuff in 3/8 for my stern tie from Pacific Net and Twine.

I bought some of that reaction stuff for a tuna reel. Did some testing with it and the breaking strength was about half what it was supposedly rated. Complained and they refunded me and told me to toss the rest.

I’d vote for 3/8” Sampson mfp for a stern tie
Has to be able to hold you when it blows up a storm!

The floating poly might avoid your having kayaker's hung from the invisible braid when you wake up in the morning too.

Heavier wire/braid is more idiot-proof but thinner goes deeper easier. I use thinner but use the goldstar rubber snubbers; many years of 90# wire with 12 lb balls. Would NEVER consider anything that thin for tying to a cleat.
