Got the results of 20 clipped Chinook heads from area 20 (Otter Pt) summer 2023. 3 had tags and were caught Aug 10, Sept 9 and 13th. All from Puget Sound area streams.

That's very cool. Interesting mark rate though. Wonder if there was clipping going on but no CWTing.

First fishing trip of the year in my boat today, and it was a good one.
Managed to land 3 ping pong paddles, lost a big Hali that took several long runs and had 9 keeper crabs in the pots.
The Halibut like herring, mackerel and octopus today behind glow white skirts.

Same as mine Rollie
Chinook 3 year old Hoko R
Chinook 3 year old Chambers Cr

only 2 that had tags others had "no tag"

1710028268570.jpegThis is where the Sooke Chinook have been caught.
More than 50% of our chinook are caught in Alaska and 40 % are caught by lodge and charter boats on the Westcoast of BC. And the remaining 10 % are turned in by sport fisher people

The Aug fish was from Cascade River, the Sept 9th from Minter Ck and the last one from Deschutes River..all of them were 3 year olds.

Who’s going hali fishing? Let’s see some pics of the murder tomorrow. Good luck.

Low expectations for a quick burn but did find Some bait still hanging around the bay on the ebb. Hit a nice thick wild, first wild in a while. On bottom still. Wilds fight better than hatchery. Change my mind.
Canada only clips 10-15% of its hatchery production so wild doesn't always mean wild.

Same down here in puget sound. Every year I have an unclipped fish that when wanded at the dock by DFW has a chip in its head!

Verbiage should be clipped vs unclipped, not hatchery vs wild.

But I do agree with @N2013 that unclipped fish generally fight better!

Unclipped fish have a full set of fins so not surprisingly they fight better. If someone cut off some of my toes I probably would not move as fast either.

Was out Monday on my forum member Hali charter with Blue Wolf Charters. I will highly recommend this for any noobie or anyone struggling to actually catch a hali (that’s me). Learned a lot and had a great day out in the mud hole around 300ft. Was a bit slow with a few big doggy’s but then managed to get a couple Hali’s in the tub & a few crabs as well. Weather and conditions were excellent. Thanks Roy for a great day from all 4 of us. Dinner last night was awesome.

Went out Sunday at Cheanuh, got a nice 12-1/2lb in the bay as soon as I put the gear down (60' on a skinnyG) but that was it. No action for the rest of the morning in the bay. Ran over to the trap shack later, no luck except for a ling and a rock cod we picked up on the turn, both released. Talked to a few guys who were out that day, nobody I saw had any fish.
