2021 Vancouver-Howe Sound-Sechelt Reports Thread

Finally pushed off for the first day of 2021...topped up the tank, looking good...bit of a NW breeze in the harbor...

Hmmm...yep let's wash the boat...20210325_133526_resized.jpg

Beefy rollers I knew it wasn't going to happen but wanted to give it a go for the hell of it. Headed back, washed it down and ready for the weekend. I plan on heading to west of Bowen and likely the hump on Saturday. Hoping for a bit less sporty conditions haha

The windshield wipers needed a trial run

Went down to marina after work to pick out new transient spot at Burrard Civic to get boat out of the lot there then popped out for quick fish. Wasn’t expecting the wind or the waves so ran well past the bell buoy until the outer counter so we could get a nice long tack back with the wind and waves. Bait was STACKED and 2 humpbacks out there with us which I haven’t seen in harbour before. Hit one close to bottom on first pass that was a keeper @147 on rigger(66cm, herring aide skinny g). Nothing after that but didn’t stay out long. Winds died down and was pretty nice heading in. First fish at the bell of 2021 for me. Hopefully get out a few more times before April 1 just in case. Didn’t see any other boats out.

Hi All, new to the chat but I’m heading out Saturday and looking for any advice on recommended spots for Saturday. Thank you
Fish from the two marker piles to the red bell buoy off Spanish banks then head over and fish right along the south of Bowen

See you at the hump tomorrow!

anyone have any decently productive prawn spots on the south side of Bowen? I’m getting nothing but shrimp in the area.

Now we know where the honey hole is! :D
Happy to share Ringo
Another good thing about Navionics is that you can switch from Nautical to Sonar charts and get an idea of where the fish are lying. In the example attached for the area around Hutt Island you can see the fish are on either side of an underwater hill that rises up from 140ft to 69ft. So when I go back there I know to fish the deeper water.

Looks like you're going to nail the weather before it blows up later, how's it going so far? Slow out the door, damn kids haha
Was planning a run out to Epsom but looks like I would fight it all the way home (not fun). Let me how today goes if your out at Bowen!
