12 ft aluminum boat refurbish

i did this project about 3yrs ago, i just got a 2x10 and had a neighbor use his planer to bring down to desired thickness, cut it to fit and now i have one solid piece of wood , was simple and am hoping it lasts longer than multiple pieces of plywood glued together, like what was in there

The top strip of aluminum on my boat. the strip that sits on top of the transom was in such bad shape, I dont think I will use it. in this case I will probably be able to use a thinner transom(I will only be using an electric motor), so I think a 3/4 inch transom would probably work.

The transom will last a lot longer if you get a few good coats of epoxy soaked into it and then seal the top edge with some aluminum flashing or similar material.
