Scotty red stopper beads

anyone had issues with the beads sliding up the braided line ?
heard somebody tried glue, but not sure if that would degrade the line ?

They always slip at some point. I check them every couple of trips and carry lots of spares. I also have 4 or 5 of them set well before the required trigger shut off point for safety (redundancy). Never tried glue. I'd be concerned about weakening the line.

I double mine up when Im forced to use them. If Im just fishing 1 line per downrigger, I have about 6' of paracord with a surgeons loop to tie the braid onto that acts as a stopper. Rubber cement has also worked well for me in the past.

X2, That is how I have been doing it for years. One 6Ft loop and the knot becomes the stopper and thread the other end of the loop thru the eye of your cannon ball and drop the ball thru the loop. No hardware to screw around with.

I use the Scotty #374 Sure stop kit. I only use the red stopper beads for stacking and double them up.

I bought some heavy green fishing cord at Canadian Tire and tied a swivel to my braid, then about 6-8 feet of this cord then added the snubber. The swivel is small enough to fit through the stop but big enough to handle the 15 lb ball. Works as well as the Scotty pre-made ones at a fraction of the cost. No issues with it stopping when it is supposed to.

I use gangion even when stacking. First knot stops in time to disconnect the top rod, tie a second overhand knot in the gangion to stop the DR for the low rod.

I use a swivel as a stopper, tie it onto the braid and then however much length lead you want from there.

Swivel never fails, been using them for years, don't slip, the work great

You gave 60 days verbal notice. No chance I would put a boat there or eat there. Neither will my 2 siblings, 3 steps, or 9 cousins, all of whom live in Richmond/Van. We always talk boats/fishing at Thanksgiving.
Wrong thread lol

I join my gangion to braid with an "Albright" knot. Easy to tie and have never had one fail or not trigger the stop on downrigger. You'll have to adjust the length of gangion to suit your boat and length of downrigger to get the cannon ball to stop where you like.

Note that the stop trigger on the Scotty is all mechanical; as the line is retrieved, the red plastic bead hits the trigger and stops the motor. So anything that is big enough to bump into the trigger will work. Tried the Scotty red/orange beads "for braided line" with and without super glue, works for awhile then fails when the glue fails. Switched to a swivel a little larger in diameter than the bead, making sure it still passes through the pulley housing and have not had any more issues. Of course, the connection is only as good as your knots on the swivel, I use the Palomar without issues. The only disadvantage with this system is that you cannot just slide the swivel up or down if you need to change the stopping point.

Same knot I use with the same experience. I might re-tie the knot every year, I might not. This year, I ran with the same gangion and knot from last year with no problem. I'll re-tie for next year for sure.
