The 1st Annual Juan De Fuca Halibut Derby. MARCH 12 & 13 2011

Great idea Eldin and his hard working crew came up with ,about 150lbs of fillets ,definatly a nice treat for some needy people

WOW....It was never about me. I and some great people from Sooke came together and made this happen...I am no glory hunter! I am just happy the causes we supported benifited. As for your comment, I do not agree but I will end my discusion with you here and now and take the high ground...

Then explain the facts then ,didn't think so,the truth hurts ,your friend list just got a whole lot smaller,it's funny that everyone else involved felt the same way about you, not a single minded post. You have upset some important people in this community and i believe an apoligy is first in order.

Great job by all the organizers and the volunteers. Very impressive for the first event. The weather sucked but I was happy to be miserable on shore and not out on the water where most were. Hats off to everyone involved and to those who bought tickets and supported the festival. Something really worth looking forward to next year.

I'm not sure who you are but I will not talk negative about anyone. I will appoligize to anyone personally if they feel that I somehow hurt them, but I know the whole truth and ALL the Facts, not just one side. But further more I will not argue politics and do not what to be involved with any small minded B.S. so I would like to thank everyone involved, it was a great event and I hope everyone can move on and look at the possitive side. Those who know me know me well and they know what I stand for and I am not going to change that for anyone.
The End!

I wondered what was up when the name changed after it had been posted as "1st Annual Juan De Fuca Halibut" to Sooke.

WOW!!!!!!!!!! just to set the word straight There was alot of people involved with this event 2 major players have told me personallly , they do not want to be put in the same sentence as you Paul. it is real shame this had to end this way, this was supposed to be good for the community of sooke now it has suffered a bit of a tarnish for why????? only you know.

Again hats off to the people involved and for the donations to the food bank, charters creek and the coalition good job guys/girls

Well...I would like to appoligize to all involved if my intentions were missinterpreted...I was only a small part in the beggining hoping to go fishing, support a good cause and promote Sooke, but I guess I upset a few people trying to stand up for what I beleive in and for that I am sorry! I meant no harm, did not want any credit, and did not want anyone to think less of me personally. As far as the rumours flying around...I did not serve any papers, talk poorly of anyone, or anything else. I respect all charter operators and fishermen alike and hope we can all see through to the BIG picture. Please understand this and get to know me personally before you start any slander. As for the derby, I now have no involvement but hope it will continue next year and be better than ever. To all my fellow Sport Fishing Forum followers...all I have to say is "ALL I WANT TO DO IS FISH AND HAVE FUN"
Again, I hope this dosen't taint anything and I do appoligize to Alden, Al, Steve, Tory and all the volunteers that made this derby and festival a success.
Thanks
Paul

Sounds like the food bank will be full with halibut. Nice to see a derby that gives back to the local community!

I can't think of a single large derby that does not give back to the community. Can you? I think that giving the fillets to the food bank was a unique and positive idea.

I wasn't biting LOL

Wow what a classy 1st post from "The Fixer" perhaps he should have a read of "Pippens" signature !! I have to say that of all the forums that I read this one seems to have more than its fair share of acrimony

WOW I go away for a bit and stuff heats up .... interesting question for sure... but im sure he has a good response.....

Wow! Im into the corn nuts now!

Gotta ask, since we made the sober guy drive out to sooke for the weigh in with our fish Saturday. Many are wondering....

1- What was the weigh results?

2- Who other than Desi won What? How much money was raised, went where etc.

3- Who set it all up, who is the real chief?

I believe there were 35 fish weighed in and Dez claimed 1st ,2nd and 5th,3rd went to Walter Stancin 56.2 2nd was 62.4 and 1st was 167, final numbers are not quit in but its around 9500.00 aproxx 7000 going to the chaters creek program and 2000 to the sfi, there were a few cheifs involved to get this running successfully ,Eldin Smith from the Crab shack was instrumental in making this happen as well Steve Arnett from the sooke mirror ,Al Kennedy,Tory Howe ,Rollie Rose all played very important rolls and should be given full recognition for there great effort to make this happen ,i believe there's something in the works for a coho derby (fundraiser) for late Sept.
