Wanted : Mooching / Trolling rods

The butts on the MHXs are not as long as I thought, however can't be any shorter than this. Even longer would be ideal.

I have one of the LJ super tough mooching rods and I love it. Full stainless eyes and a longer butt. Slow action though.

Every Canadian Tire Store is a Franchise Store. They may carry some local products as well (unless the rules have changed)

They are also the only franchise that you start out small and can buy (and move) to a bigger store(s) as you build equity.

CTC ownership is closely held between the founding Billes Family, Dealer Holdings, and the employee profit sharing plan

When a franchise is sold to an new dealer they even have a math formulae to value the remaining life of the hydralic fluid in the car lifts.

Any time you see Maxium tools on sale for a discount of 60% or more they are a super deal.

I'm going to have my rep grab me one to hold and feel. If that rod has the backbone and it's mostly eglass then I would grab a half dozen. The price is right that's for sure.
 
The rod is a bit fatter than a technium but it’s much more fun to fish. Technium on the left. LJ super tough on the right.

They call it a medium action with a 12-30lb rating. I landed a couple 28-30lb springs on it last year and it was fine. I find that the action and the speed helps when the fish are head shaking a lot. It just soaks it up. I use their 9ft boat rod exclusively while bucktailing and I really enjoy them as well. Pretty much just a shorter version of the 10’6 ST.
 
Nice comparison picture and explanation. Shows you can have slow action and a good backbone. I miss glass rods for mooching and salmon fishing in general but these modern composites could be a good compromise.

After looking closer at my LJ I have the regular model and it is an up locking seat. Rear grip is just past 9 inches but the seat is longer than most to accommodate the longer reel foot on the legacy reel. With it being up locking you gain an inch or 2 of length on the back end. Didn’t know about the Super Tough but now I have to get one (if I can find one) just for the full chrome guides.
 
I'm going to grab 4 and try them out for a year. If they are even available

Super tough is around 12” to the reel seat.

Rod supplies are getting really expensive now and looking for rods with long carbon butt sections, 10'6, stainless eyelets without inserts, aluminum reel seats.. that sorta thing. Do they exist without spending a grand each?

What you describe is available in a 10'6" R3EF available at Trotac
Composite butt, cork upper aluminum foot and stainless eyes, 150 bucks.
I grabbed 3 and used them last season, comparable with a 1265 I used to run

Fair enough. The way I setup the boats is why. It's not because of how they sit in a rod tube.

I bought 4 last year and just bought another 8 in case they change them can’t not match after all!
All still intact after a full guide season
