Your Ride

1974 11'4" Boston Whaler. 15hp Honda. 1 old blue scotty DR, sounder and hand-held GPS. I put on my chest waders(it's a wet ride but the self -bailer works great) and life jacket and head out with the big boys on decent days. Caught 30 pounders each of the last 4 years on my yearly week long trip to the coast. It is the perfect boat for fly-fishing White lake closer to home.

Anybody know where I can get a 1980's 17 foot Whaler Montauk? What do the lodges do with their used boats when they upgrade?

Knucklebuster: I've got about a 80 nautical mile range with this rig. As far as serious ocean is concerned... everyone tells me it would be no problem to fish Swiftsure in it and I plan to this year. Really go to pick your days though.
It works great for all the places I fish. Inland around Chemainus,Porleir,Strait of Juan De Fuca,Renfrew,Nootka,Alberni and Barkley Sound. Easy on gas too.

Mine had bad/hard steering too..bad seals

To fish or not to fish,
What a stupid question!
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish, and he will sit on a boat drinking beer for a life time :D

1st boat 76 17.5 K+C with volvo 140a/280 leg didn't know much about boats - guy ripped me off original engine 130 had blown head but ran. I learned my lesson
now I have

2000 bayliner capri 185c 4.3 alpha1 leg got it mostly for family but I will attempt to fit down riggers and a vhf radio wanted a boat that didn't smell or need (touch wood) massive amounts of time or $$$ to repair/ replace worn out parts/ seats upholestry etc

bhemi and Nedarb2.

What does it take to replace seals - teardown cylinder or something more complex? I friend had same stiff steering and found it was bad bushing in helm.

What ever it takes, I definately need to remedy mine - king size pain trying quick manuver in tied spots etc..

M&P has a nice older 17Montauk and there are a couple in the BUYSELL.The fishing lodge boats are mostly 17 & 18 Outrages and BELEIVE ME a nice one is hard to find.(Took me 1 year).Don't want to spin off the thread so if you are looking for a Boston Whaler you should do a new post.good luck!!

Numerous smaller boats over the years. Currently mid 70's 18.5 double eagle, 302 ford/270 volvo drive. Been steadily improving her over the last 5 seasons. Great seaworthy boat! Learning how to fish with her and now actually started catching fish! Dream about going to 21-24'but with all the time and effort into this one makes it hard to want to start over.

5-Slat Fever, im sorry im not sure how to fix it, my boats in Cove-yachts right now and im just hearing updates from my parent s a few times a week and i was told that the reason the steering felt like it had elastic bands in it was becasue the seals were gone.

First boat was a 10' 6 fibreglass with a 6hp Johnson. The ducks I shot out of that puppy kept my family of five in down pillows.

Twelve foot Lund with a 15 hp was next , then the current 14' Lund SV w/ a 20 hp. Biggest fish was a 44 lb spring. Sits in the garage of my townhouse ready to go.

I should make 20' by the year 2010 at this rate.

Own your own stuff.

In order
16 foot canoe.
12' glass car topper, good enough boat to go from Horseshoe Bay to Bowen with a 7.5 Merc.
14 foot glass over ply, rotting, leaking, frigging, heart-breaking sob.
23.5' Bayliner Trophy, big, beautiful, but gone.
6' Bucks Bag Pontoon boat - great fun for small trout lakes.
16' Arima Sea Chaser - the latest and hopefully last.

Scotty
The Arima has a 2 stroke Johnson 60 hp.
Moves it quite well. About 37 mph @4500 rpm, 30 @ 3000. Trolls down to 2 - 2.5 mph.
Have a 8hp Yamaha F-8 on order for a kicker.

Sweeeeeeeeeeeet! Old Sangster with some new paint.

T2

12 ft Gregor 9.9 Evinrude

19 ft Ski Barge 115 Yamaha

22 ft Outrage Boston Whaler 200 Merc

27 ft Orca (newly repowered with common rail D4 Diesel by Volvo)

Sold the whaler to get the Orca still have the other two. Never spent money on anything that has given me more enjoyment and more grief than my boats. Hope new diesel will eliminate some of the mechanical problems.

Thanks guys.
Mr. D, a man's work is never done.
The first trip is in the works for the weekend, the Hardy and Renny weeks are a done deal for the summer: bring on the fish! ...and some big prawns would also be nice.
