Post Atlantic salmon catch

feisty bugger...:) Reminds me of the late 60 s show "the prisoner" where any
potential escapee would be hunted
down and returned to containment
by a freaky white blob....well sort of.

We caught 2 Atlantics on Tuesday off Uki on the wreck. Both were healthy and about 9 pounds and took the gear like a spring salmon. Both caught on spoons at 90'. Interesting times.

Read on Facebook 4 caught in White Rock in the beach smelt nets.

WDFW is asking anglers who catch Atlantic salmon that escaped from a salmon farm Aug. 19, 2017, near the San Juan Islands to report their catch. State fishery managers would like to track how many Atlantic salmon are recovered by sport anglers and how far those fish dispersed.

DFO also wants people to report. They just want a photo and a location to confirm. http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/science/aquaculture/aswp/index-eng.html . In the news they say they are looking at which rivers to possibly swim this fall to survey if they are entering freshwater.

One caught off the green can in campbell today, must be heading to the broughtons looking for a mate in the net pens

Hopefully the one in Campbell River gets reported. When I talked to DFO today they weren't aware of any north of Texada.

Saving the carcass is useful for DFO also. It'll give them an idea of feeding behaviour, maturation, and they can read the temperature marks in the otolith to know which hatchery they came from.

5 were caught in the Fraser river test fishery miles up the river yesterday.

"Comments: Gilled vs. Tangled: Sock Adult: 11 (3), Pink: 28 (23), Coho: 5 (5), Chin Adult: 12 (9), Chin Jack: 1 (0), Chum: 5 (9). Up to 3 seals observed. 1 pink escaped, 1 pink destroyed by seal. 5 Atlantic salmon caught."

I'd like to see a couple pictures of it hanging from a stick before I make any comments about it, if that's ok. (grin)

Take care.
