English Bay Freighter horn

General alarm. Might be doing lifeboat muster drills. Hopefully a drill!

Yes that would be a general alarm. Kind of odd to actually use the ships whistle while in English Bay if it’s a drill! But, if there wasn’t commotion following it then I’d guess you’re right and it was an over zealous or enthusiastic drill...

Anyone know what 7 blasts then one prolonged blast mean? 3 sets of those in the last 5 mins in the harbour...

Haha.....I was at home and heard them yesterday morning, figured "someone is doing something really wrong". I have always heard them stop at 5 and also noted when that ran to 7 or 8.

there was a man over board last night in English bay #9 that would be your answer. Also a mayday on the radio. At first they thot he had fallen overboard,

apparently a crewman had jumped ship and swam ashore, he was found by the RVYC and cops showed up.

Oh - ok. Were you on the water to hear the mayday? OR did you read about it?
