I got the power seat fabricated today, it moves 16", still need to trim it out and add the backrest mount which allows the backrest to flip from one side to the other. The plan is to build this into a dedicated toolbox for spares and tools, I sat on it for testing purposes and my 185 lbs did nothing to slow it down, the actuator wasn't bothered at all.

The rail system is made from starboard, and stainless steel mounted to a black locust wood support, the whole seat is framed with black locust supports. Since this will not be fixed to the floor it needed to be extra stiff, and over the years I've come to really like using black locust as it doesn't rot and it has the strength of ash or hickory. And fun fact it fluoresces green under black light.

Got the seat back brace done today, This is so the port side fwd seat can move and have the backrest swapped around. This was a good reminder of my love/hate relationship with polishing stainless. Its been a few months since I was last welded anything, but its just like riding a bike... that you welded.

I love the picture with the tools in it,I find when I work on my boat I end up with practically every tool I own in there.
you should see the garage!!, lol i didnt have room to bring the boat to my woodshop, so I had to bring part of the woodshop home to the garage, which is already the metalshop and tool storage, so its impossible to do anything unless you drag the woodworking tools outside lol

Pfft, clearly you don't own anywhere near enough tools.

The last boat I drove had 2 HDS8 screens. I would install something similar if I was ever to own another boat. Plus, installing a basic FF near the rear helm is always a bonus when sight lines get blocked by 'guests'

Yeah the space I have to dedicate to a screen is minimal, no chance of two screens side by side. and basically the lowrance 9 and 12" units take up nearly the same space, where the garmin 12' takes up much less space, and I can easily see from the deck if I offset it a bit. The only reason I was going with lowrance I that I like the interface better, and If i go with the lowrance 12" it will take up the whole dash, where the garmin 12" will still let me put the other guages since its 2" narrower. I think thats going to be the deciding factor, that and it seem the other sensors I will be connecting are more readily available from garmin than lowrance. And I can get Garmin from both my major suppliers, lowrance only from one. Theres a lot of me grinding my teeth and flipping through pages right now lol

Power seat is done and installed, now for varnish and outfitting as a toolbox

A sneak peak on another little custom project for the boat.
And no I don’t have a lathe (it’s on my shopping list, but it’s amazing what can be done with a table saw, a router and a forstner bit.

Another project started and another finished.
Got the boarding steps installed, I used black locust as it is the hardest and durable wood I can source without having to worry about rot.

and started assembling the engine air intakes/bilge blower intake, I still have to hunt down a section of 3” tube for the blower to attach to, but at least one is mostly assembled, needs a lot more polishing of the faceplate though.
