Have you tried a Dipsy Diver?

I haven't but when I looked online at these they seem more for fishing from a boat to get depth without a downrigger where I want to fish plugs from a river bank

Not sure where your located but just about all CT stores carry side planers. We use them quite a bit trolling top water plugs for early spring Pike fishing when the fish are in the shallows.
