WHO remembers the Vancouver Sun salmon derby?

I did a Google search, couldn't find out the end date or the $ amount in the 70's, but there are references of it dating back into the 1940's!!

I did like the format of the Export Derby. It didn't increase the number of boats on the water when it ran as it was summer long. Every area on the Island was involved and those lucky few who caught the right fish , then got past the weekly draw ($1000 and your done or move on to the final) and then went on to a final competition at Langara for big money. I would welcome that format back again.
