White River Sayward

Stewart lake yes the river no I think there is some falls half way up if I recall, be carefull of grizz in that area when we had a elk draw they sent us a warning of a grizz in the area.

I fished it once about 30 years ago, without any luck. Nowadays, it's one of the many east coast Van. Island rivers with a winter closure not far above the ocean. I just looked at the regs for the closure details:
"No Fishing upstream of the Sayward Road Bridge crossing, Nov 1-Apr 30"

Summer run steelhead river. the great Eric Carlisle used to take a trip there once and a while, and then write an article about it.

Steep terrain in the best area's. Back when I fished it I was only good for one run's effort. Vaguely recall it has some oddly timed salmon run, besides SR Steelhead. Adam and Eve, next watershed up has a more popular fishery, which one time included introduced brown trout.

This fishery is closed from November 1 until April 30 above Sayward rd. The road crosses the river 3 times so in classic bc fishing synopsis fashion its extra confusing.
