I have seen them in trawls before but not traps. They don't go into traps because they are predators rather than scavengers. They have preying mantis like hooked appendages they use to catch little amphipods and the like and eat them whole (unlike spot prawn they can't tear off pieces). They also have various other weird anatomical and developmental characteristics. They are pretty slow and dopey, guess is that he was just sitting in/on the trap and rode it to the surface.
