Hi all,

Has any one had a recent trip in the area would like to share? Heard the Canadian Princess has a good season this summer, has any try it?

Thanks for all the info.

I went to the Princess lodge (Ucluelet) in June and the fishing sucked. I went out for three days and the only thing I caught was other people on the boat. In the three days that we were out 1 Halibut and 2 springs were caught between 20 people. I had a friend that went with a smaller private charter that trolled instead of jigging and he limited out all three days only 1 week after I went. DO WAIST YOUR TIME WITH PRINCESS CHARTER or OAK BAY MARINA!!! Spend the extra and catch fish...

agree 100% I've been out with them 2 times (2 times too many) and their skippers are jokes, and the fishing was brutal for the Princess boats meanwhile charters were nailin em.

Shoulder to shoulder, stem to stern, lined up on both port and starboard sides, all the while rolling in the swell...........

Sounds like a trip that one would NOT forget!!.

Smarter ways to spend your money. But on the other hand , it is cheap.

Some like it rough...
Others just puke!.

Thanks for replying my two years old post.

I have made four trips to the Princess since. On my first trip out, the spring were WFO; boat limits were made before I had a chance to wet my own line as I was teaching my first-timer friends how jigging fish would had been done. That first trip was good for this type of party-boat fishing and made first-timers become avid fishermen.

Last September while I was on another Princess cattle trip, the wind were blowing 20, as a result, all the fleet were hiding between the Brokens. I asked the skipper of my boat what we were about to target, the answer was "working your way from the bottom to the top to see if anything would play". He had no idea what will come out but that was a perfect spot to hide from the wind. The whole fleet caught nada.

I was there at the Princess again with another group of new first-timers this June. Again the fishing sucks, but one of the first-timer on his first drop picked a 25 # spring, and he is hooked on fishing for good. The other also nailed a 45 ponder hali.

Some likes the Princess; but if the west coast is where you must go and are serious about catching fish, I would recommend Bamfield as your spot. Bamfield has many good charters to choose from and is on the more remote side of the Island.

yeh.. there captians maybe on the non experience side thats for sure, as one of the operations manager tried to tell me that dog fish only hang out in the top 100ft of water HA! sure they do! I think you all agree with me thats not true. I never even had hot water for the three days I was there nor did my three fishing buds I think they are there just to fill boats and not offer a quality charter. I only booked with them cause I am without a boat for the year, and no buds have a boat big enough for the west coast I am so desperate I have to pay to go fishing. Next year should be better when the new boat comes along.

There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot.
