Trailer lights off completely - Where to start?

Used a fish wire but if you don't have one heavy mono works fine. When working on trailer lighting don't hook up the hitch. You want the wiring harness to be the only ground between trailer and truck.

Our dog sled guide had a problem with his trailer wire...trailer sat for 4 months...he changed trucks...chev to chev.electric brakes and lites toast...I am a firm believer in running a primary ground wire...sometimes hitches get grungy for a good ground..new ground...everything worked..moral of the story is...keep your balls clean...if you don't have clean balls..redo your wire....

Do the trailer lights have to be fastened to the trailer ?or may they be off compleatly on a light bar with light over plate?my light bar has lasted 10 years without fail ,it never gets wet.

A light bar is a good alternative, and as a plus it is so easily transferable to another vehicle or trailer. Only down side is you may come back to your vehicle after fishing, to find it gone if not locked up. The nicest l have seen were mounted on Scotty posts and went into rod holders at the stern of the boat. Stored in a cloth shopping bag too.
