The slow death of the Cowichan River - Hero and Villains

No rivers should be fished in the summer that are vulnerable to drought. I would have no problem with a summer closure. Where's the sport tossing flies or lures at summer runs trapped in canyon pools. Our neighbours to the South have no problem with seasonal closures to protect fish.

Raising the weir is a no brainer.

Its not just the Cowy that needs the help from guys dedicated like Joe... I was told the other day by the president of the Fanny Bay Enhancement society that their members have rescued close to 50,000 juvenile salmonids from numerous drying creeks in Baynes Sound this summer. They take them back to Rosewall hatchery until the fall rains make the streams livable again...... And there are numerous other enhancement groups in the province that have similar salvage programs.. But it seems that what Joe needs is help.... this is not a job for one man with a gimpy leg! But he deserves a great big THANKS! from those of us that value our fish.
