Tach for 2 cylinder?

I have a Faria 3.5" tachometer that is spare, and a like sized hole in the dash holding a speedo. Would like to install the tach for reading rpm of my Merc 9.9 four stroke kicker since I never use the speedo anymore with GPS at hand. The position switch on the tach only has positions for 4 cylinder and up. Anyone tell me if this can be made to work? Or if it could work on a twin cylinder two stroke? (Got one of those at the cabin, could use it to check prop suitability).

unlikely but a mercmonitor should fit in the same size hole if its a newer merc outboard. give it a try and if it doesnt work check out a mercmonitor replacement assuming your engine is compatible.

I think my Merc is too old, 2000 model. Will check manual but I can't recall seeing any data connection wiring when I've been inside the cowling for oil changes etc.

Thanks that is excellent. I will rest tomorrow.
